What a year. Like many of you, despite elaborate planning for the new decade, 2020 didn’t quite pan out as we expected. Almost overnight, our lives and livelihoods were turned upside down and we found ourselves at home, either working remotely or not at all, without the day-to-day supports we will never again take for granted. Then in the middle of all that chaos, Sonru had some very big news: we joined the Modern Hire family in July. With travel restrictions, we haven’t been able to gather both teams face-to-face but that hasn’t stopped us from collaborating to create candidate- and client-centric solutions to address the rapidly changing recruitment industry. We’re most excited for our clients because this partnership opens up lots of new opportunities for them to enhance their recruitment process.
Here’s just a taster of what team Sonru have been doing in 2020:
Grounded but not to a halt
This time last year, we had a busy 2020 events schedule signed off and were looking forward, as always, to the Sonru roadshow where we meet customers and prospects across Europe, USA, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand. Little did we know back in February 2020, that In-House Recruitment Expo 2020 in London would be our one and only event to attend in person. We’re so glad that we gave that masterclass sharing the dos and don’ts of Video Interviewing as told by Sonru clients. This year, we have all attended online events and seminars for both business and pleasure but Sonru was delighted to be able to attend ATC: Digital in June.
Client Video Interviewing Stories
Even during such a year, the generosity of Sonru clients continued to amaze us with them giving their limited time to share their Video Interviewing stories and love of video interviewing in case studies. Here is just a flavour of the stories they’ve been so kind to share.
- Our first case study of 2020 featured the Careers and Employability service of the University of Liverpool and how it immerses Geography students in a two-year programme that comprises both formative and summative video interviews which are assessed by both faculty staff and their peers
- Tourism Ireland reinvented their recruitment process by reducing the need for international travel to conduct first round interviews. Not only was their time to hire halved, but video interviewing allowed for greater team buy-in and engagement and more
- Seeing candidates behind the application and less risk of missing good candidates were just some of the key benefits of video interviewing for Nestlé. As was the ability to assess critical technical skills earlier in the process and better communication between the HR / Recruitment team and the hiring managers
- Some of the highlights of video interviewing for Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) included faster and better shortlisting of candidates, fewer panel interviews, more confidence and involvement of Hiring Managers and an enhanced Candidate Experience
Research and Publications in 2020
White Papers on Video Interviewing Research
- In June, we launched “The Sonru Customer Benchmark Study – Big Data Analysis of Video Interviewing Implementation among Sonru clients”, a first of its kind in the industry. Looking at over 20,000 randomly selected interview campaigns (593,000+ interviews within 592 hiring companies) and over 33,000 candidate surveys, the white paper was a deep dive into user behaviour.
- For Q4, we published another white paper: “A Sectoral Analysis of the Candidate Experience of Video Interviewing”. Comparing findings across 12 key industry sectors, we looked at pre-interview and post-interview attitudes towards video interviewing, interview completion specifics (completion rates, location, and device), the Candidate Experience, and even more candidate conclusions.
